Monsanto Company’s Fibers Division wanted a system which would control dozens of sophisticated, high speed manufacturing systems and track inventory samples and quality performance for the world’s largest plant for acrylic fiber production.
A.J. Boggs led the development of a radio-frequency (wireless) bar code scanner system that maintained inventory information in an area controller running an Oracle database system. Our solution was based on a client-server architecture and managed message routing, transaction processing and control using over 30 radio-frequency data terminals interaction with dozens of cell controllers running Factory Link Systems. The system had redundancy that eliminated single points of failure.
