According to the US Department of Labor, less than twenty percent (< 20%) of adults living with disabilities are employed.
With many employers facing talent shortages, now is a great time to expand diversity programs to recruit more talented professionals from the community of individuals living with disabilities. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and can make significant contributions to a work place. If we would just understand how to accommodate their needs, we could create great working environments.
Kortney Puuri, a Project Manager at AJBoggs, is helping lead efforts to help our teams achieve excellence and “evolve our hiring processes and jobs to be more accommodating to everyone.” There is always room to be more inclusive. In our software development processes, we are working to adjust our methodologies and always look to do a better job in supporting more diverse people with different strengths.
It is important that our teams talk about the challenges we face more often. We also need to do a better job of listening more carefully to understand each employee situation. At A.J. Boggs & Company, we love to celebrate everyone’s strengths and we are serious about our effort to ensure diversity across our firm.
If anyone has success stories that they can share with us, we are looking for better ways to accommodate everyone. Or if anyone has questions about how we work, feel free to contact me at ipek.kain@dev3.ajboggs.com
